2nd Shift - EZ Grind Lead (15% Shift Differential!)

Office: Tegra Medical - Franklin
Location: MA

Tegra Medical is looking for a 2nd Shift - EZ Grind Lead in our EZ Grind Department.

The EZ Grind Lead will lead and assist in projects that improve and enhance the throughput of the Grinding operations and personnel; and support the technical/engineering efforts required for the department.

This is a high-profile position that has a direct impact on the technical growth of the department, driving continuous improvement efforts, productivity and efficiency. Key to this role is the ability to see the short-term needs and have the vision of long term success; as well as effectively interface across all functions and business units to provide prototype support, production support, training and overall high level performance of the Grinding Department.

Setup and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including CNC infeed/thrufeed centerless grinding machines, CNC surface grinding machines, CNC wire grinding machines and Set up simple to moderately complex jobs grinding various features onto relatively small parts and wires. Maintain awareness of close tolerance parts, including pointed parts using various types of measuring equipment including vision systems. Following standard operating procedures and instructions. Set up and operate secondary equipment and perform any other functions within the department that may be necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Manufacturing Supervisor effectively plan and execute to drive improvements in quality, costs, employee development, safety etc. both tactically and strategically (short term and long term)
  • Support ALL Production and development needs associated with Grinding and operations. Including but not limited to technical support, quoting, process development, process improvements, setting up and operating equipment, capital equipment selection, training of employees, developing capabilities that are unique and non-traditional and in general the GO-TO person and liaison for ALL Grinding activities within the Franklin facility. Must possess a positive attitude and excel at being a team player in a team-based manufacturing environment
  • Teach, train, develop and coach department personnel as needed (areas could be but not limited to operation & setup of Grinding equipment, inspection tools and techniques, mathematics associated with machining, interpretation of drawing callouts etc.).
  • Must be self-motivated hands-on individual with a strong sense of urgency and passion for excellence.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes for tubing and wire components
  • Experience with standard industry materials, stainless steels, nitinol, titanium and PEEK
  • Development of robust manufacturing processes for new product as well as continuous improvement of existing products
  • Demonstrated ability to run multiple projects and exhibit strong accountability to achieve scheduled milestones and deliverables.
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude
  • Operate machines, achieving specifications including quality and throughput.
  • Implement continuous improvement activities ex. LEAN, 7S, setup reduction etc. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform ERP system transactions.
  • Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools.
  • Review setup and specs to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, dimensions of finished workpiece.
  • Work from procedures and prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
  • Troubleshoot problems, make adjustments to achieve quality output. Adjustments to tooling, machines and/or part programs. Engage supervisor or lead person if process/program require adjustments beyond minor adjustments.
  • Notify supervisor and/or Manufacturing Engineering of discrepancies.
  • Perform own part inspection during machining process to measure workpiece to check it matches specs, using a broad range of measuring instruments, i.e., microscope, optical comparator, micrometer, caliper, dial indicators and gauges.
  • Communicate with co-workers, members of other shifts, technical leaders, team leader and/or supervisor to transfer and receive instructions and information; coordinate activities regarding the status of the operation of particular jobs.
  • Perform 1st piece and In-process inspections for self and peers.
  • Record measurements per inspection plans and methods indicated.
  • Monitoring for trends and adjusting as required to maintain specifications and minimizing variation.
  • Assist engineers with prove-outs, make suggestions to improve processes as well as processes that are unproven.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to maintain high standard of quality.
  • Expected to maintain specifications as defined on drawing and/or routing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and grinding methods and sequences.
  • Adjust machine feed and speed and grind parts to specs.
  • Suggest improvements to existing methods of grinding operation.

You have:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.
  • 4 to 7 years’ experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a Grinding Setup Operator is required. Prior leadership experience is a plus.
  • Experience operating Cincinnati, Okamoto, Royal Master or Glebar is helpful.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, metals are desired.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, specifications and quality plans and have strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools.
  • Good work habits, strong workmanship and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations and other functions within manufacturing as needed.
