Swiss Machining Apprentice

Office: Tegra Medical - Franklin
Location: MA

Tegra Medical is seeking a Swiss Machining Apprentice to join our Franklin, MA facility. The Swiss Machining Apprentice will be fully immersed in a provided State Approved curriculum that will lead them through everything starting with the fundamentals of Swiss machining to basic coding, set-up & programming. Training will be carried out with the assistance of trained Swiss department personnel, engineers, operators, and colleagues and will utilize various operations performed throughout production as they pertain to training value. Training will consist of 4,000 hours of hands-on and online /classroom training. Due to the significant investment by Tegra and the selected individual, a letter of understanding will be drawn up and signed by both parties.

Role and Responsibilities
• Operate CNC machines including CNC Swiss style lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, etc.
• Review set up sheets and specs to understand machining sequence and dimensions of finished work piece.
• Work from procedures and prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
• Adjust as needed to tools ex. Tool offsets, guide bushing tension etc. monitoring process for tool conditions, burrs and surface finishes.
• Assemble cutting tools in tool holders and position in machine spindles as specified, using hand tools, or insert cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
• Perform own part inspection during grinding process to measure work piece to check to match specs, using measuring instruments such as microscope, optical comparator, micrometer, caliper, dial indicators and gauges.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
• H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.
• Experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator or machining background is a plus.
• Experience operating Citizen, Star, Tsugami CNC Swiss lathes desired, or other CNC Turning Centers or CNC equipment is a plus.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, metals a plus. Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, specifications, and quality plans and have strong oral and written communication skills.

Hours of Work: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM must be flexible based on training availability.

As stated above due to the significant investment by Tegra Medical and the selected individual, a letter of understanding will be drawn up and signed by both parties.

A two-year employment commitment to Tegra Medical after program completion is expected.
